Why is the Electoral College in the Constitution? How does it work? And why worry about keeping it?

I wrote “Why We Must Defend the Electoral College” to answer these questions. The system we use to elect the president of the United States shapes our national politics. The Founder’s invention—the Electoral College—helps to involve more people in presidential politics while also pulling us together as a nation. And it protects against fraud.

Unfortunately, there is an organized national campaign trying to hijack the Electoral College. They are nearly three-fourths of the way to their goal. If they succeed, they will throw our country into chaos and could permanently shift even more political power to a few giant cities.
