Will DEI survive a second Trump presidency?
Harry Roth • Nov 15, 2024

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, or DEI for short, is a framework to implement radical racial, gender, and sexual policies in public and private institutions. During the Biden administration, DEI became the federal government’s modus operandi. In fact, one of President Joe Biden’s first acts as president was to revoke his predecessor’s executive order prohibiting federal contractors from providing DEI training for employees.

In his first year in office, Biden signed an executive order promoting DEI in the federal government. The order directed all federal agencies to implement these discriminatory practices in their workforces, create powerful new DEI positions, and mandate DEI trainings. In his own words, President Biden described DEI as “the core strength of America.”

Before he even became president, Biden made clear that DEI would be his guiding star, saying publicly that he would only select a black woman as his VP before settling on Kamala Harris. He did the same thing again in 2022 when he selected Ketanji Brown Jackson as his Supreme Court pick and made the following statement explaining his decision:

"The person I will nominate will be someone with extraordinary qualifications, character, experience, and integrity. And that person will be the first Black woman ever nominated to the United States Supreme Court. It's long overdue, in my view. I made that commitment during the campaign for president, and I will keep that commitment."

The media celebrated this decision, but what they were really celebrating was racial and gender discrimination. Biden’s refusal to even consider a non-black or non-female candidate was telling. It exposed the entire Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion complex as nothing more than a racist scheme to undermine our meritocracy.

President-elect Donald Trump will be inaugurated in two months and has already taken aim at DEI. Calling it “anti-American insanity,” he plans to terminate all federal DEI programs and initiatives and even promised to compensate the victims of these racist policies. This is a far cry from the radical pro-DEI approach taken by the Biden administration.

Another sign of President-elect Donald Trump’s seriousness on the matter are his staffing choices. He selected Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to head his Department of Government Efficiency—two successful businessmen and vocal opponents of DEI. And it doesn’t stop there.

His pick for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, recently came out against DEI in the military, calling for an end to the woke indoctrination of our service members. His choice for Attorney General Matt Gaetz described DEI as “anti-white racism."

DEI in the private sector is already declining. Major corporations like Boeing and John Deere have abandoned it after facing public backlash. And with the incoming administration on a warpath against DEI, its long-term survival seems unlikely.
